AA VISITING SCHOOL SÃO PAULO
Bamboo installation for Bella Artes, build within the ARCHITECTURAL ASSOCIATION (AA) VISITING SCHOOL SÃO PAULO 2022, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Mixed-Reality construction workshop
Placed in a Mixed Reality (MR) context, the AA Visiting School São Paulo 2022 relied on Augmented Reality (AR) technology to guide manual fabrication actions for the development of complex geometries built with bamboo. This year, the design and fabrication of these parametric structures was led by architects Prof. Kristof Crolla and Mr. Garvin Goepel, using both analog and digital techniques.
The aim was to combine bamboo constructions and digital technologies, based on digital design research used for the implementation of bending-active bamboo shell structures. 3D AR Holographic guild lines were used instead of conventional 2D-drawing to construct a bamboo installation by a team of students at Bella Artes University with a set of multiple HoloLens’s and handheld smartphone devices.
