Project Location:  Shatin, Hong Kong S.A.R.
Dates:  March 2021

Describtion:

This workshop provided a hands-on introduction to Augmented Reality (AR) construction and bamboo craft, combining theoretical study and practical experience.
Throughout the workshop, participants were challenged to engage with both cutting edge AR systems and an age-old craft - working at the interface of technology and material culture. Over the course of 5 days, participants were working together to design and construct a temporary bamboo structure and, in the process, gaining experience in the development and adoption of AR tools for project-specific construction needs.
Augmented Reality has the potential to create a paradigm shift in the production of architecture. This workshop aims to contribute to the ongoing international debate on architectural applications of digital technology and computational design tools, and the impact that these have on craftsmanship and architectural fabrication.
